The Jules Chéret Fine Arts Museum, the Palais Lascaris, the Masséna Museum, and the Cessole Library present the exhibition “Living for Art: The Trachel and Rothschild Collections in Nice,” highlighting the works generously donated to the City of Nice by these two prominent families. These donations, made between 1888 and 1912, comprise over seventeen hundred works of various types: archaeological objects, drawings, watercolors, paintings, sculptures, prints, as well as furniture, ceramics, and textiles. They form the core of the museums’ collections in Nice.
This project also offers an opportunity to rediscover the thousands of watercolor landscapes in Nice and throughout Europe by the Trachel brothers, Hercule, Dominique, and Antoine, as well as those of Baroness Charlotte de Rothschild, whose teacher and friend was Hercule.
