A Masterpiece of One’s Own. Monet at the Fine Arts Museum

  • From to

Experience the intimacy of art with an iconic painting, gifted to Berthe Morisot by Monet himself. Explore the Riviera through their eyes, starting April 5, 2024.

In 2024, the Ministry of Culture and the Musée d’Orsay celebrate the 150th anniversary of Impressionism. In parallel with the exhibition “Paris 1874: Inventing Impressionism” held in Paris, around 180 works exceptionally loaned by the Musée d’Orsay are to be discovered in over 30 museums across France.

The Jules Chéret Fine Arts Museum presents during the spring of 2024 a masterpiece by Claude Monet.

Painted for Berthe Morisot, the artwork was conceived by Monet as a decorative panel to adorn the studio-living room of her Parisian apartment. Thus, she could admire it daily. This intimacy between the viewer and the masterpiece is recreated at the Fine Arts Museum, which welcomes visitors in a comfortable contemplation space with familiar notes.

Depicting the Villas at Bordighera, this canvas testifies to the attachment of the two painters to the Riviera, which they visited several times in the 1880s. Berthe Morisot’s stays in Nice will be at the heart of the exhibition “Berthe Morisot in Nice: Impressionist Stages,” which will open its doors on June 7, 2024, and will continue the celebration of Impressionism in Nice.
